Rebuilding truth: How AI is redefining communication | Opinion
39+ min ago (524+ words) In such an environment, communication becomes ever more critical. It forms the foundation of personal, social, national and international relationships. Rebuilding these connections in the post-truth era requires a rethinking of communication itself, as well as careful consideration of who (or what) can be trusted to facilitate it. Artificial intelligence sits at the heart of this evolution. Communication has always adapted to technological advances, and AI is both at the forefront and at the core of this transformation. It is reshaping not only how we communicate but also how we verify information. Today, it isn't easy to imagine social or intergovernmental interactions that do not, in some way, involve AI. Yet AI's dual nature, as both a solution and a risk, cannot be ignored. To overlook this is not just naive; it undermines our ability to establish effective communication and…...
Istanbul’s reservoir levels drop despite increased October rainfall
12+ hour, 10+ min ago (356+ words) In Istanbul, where daily water consumption averages around 3 million cubic meters, reservoir levels have continued to decline throughout October, despite a notable rise in rainfall. Data from the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (ISKI) reveals that reservoirs supplying the city received 93.49 millimeters of rainfall in October 2025. This represents the third-highest October rainfall total recorded over the past decade, following 2015 and 2020. However, despite this above-average precipitation, reservoir levels dropped significantly over the same period. The combined water storage in Istanbul's main reservoirs, including "merli, Darl'k, Elmal', Terkos, Alibey, B'y'k'ekmece, Sazl'dere, Istrancalar, Kazandere and Papu'dere, fell from an average fill rate of 28.49% on Oct. 1 to 22.96% by the end of the month, marking a monthly decline of 5.53%. Meanwhile, the city's daily water consumption remained high, reaching 3.14 million cubic meters in October. A substantial portion of the city's supply, totaling approximately 36.87 million cubic meters…...
US researchers claim communication between people while dreaming
13+ hour, 6+ min ago (544+ words) A California sleep-technology researcher says his team has achieved two-way communication between people during dreams, using a wearable device that detects lucid REM sleep and transmits audio cues between sleeping participants. Michael Raduga, CEO of REMspace, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that his group spent years attempting to establish dream-to-dream communication. "Communication in dreams is possible via the phenomenon called lucid dreaming," he said. "When you have consciousness in REM sleep, you understand what's going on as if you are in reality, so you can control what you do." To avoid stress and traffic, Raduga conducts all his work from home, and his employees also work remotely from different cities and countries. Raduga said the company relied on "very advanced lucid dreamers" who can induce lucid dreams nearly every night and tolerate sleeping while covered in electrodes. "Around the world, there…...
Experts address Türkiye’s water waste, management challenges
13+ hour, 11+ min ago (668+ words) Experts highlight that the escalating loss of water resources in T'rkiye is driven by the dual pressures of climate change and a rising population, compounded by inefficient household water use and significant losses in urban water distribution networks. A detailed examination of T'rkiye's domestic water consumption habits, the effectiveness of current water management policies and the tangible impacts of climate change and drought on water availability was recently conducted. According to the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI), T'rkiye's total annual water consumption reaches 57 billion cubic meters (2.01 trillion cubic feet), of which approximately 12% (6.8 billion cubic meters) is allocated to household use. Halil Fatih Akg'l, chairperson of the board of trustees of the Turkish Waste Prevention Foundation (TISVA), emphasized that the average daily water consumption per person in T'rkiye is 217 liters (57.33 gallons). This figure notably surpasses both the global average…...

Seeds of change: Türkiye’s journey to global eco stage | Column
2+ day, 39+ min ago (381+ words) As is well known, the world currently faces an intense agenda centered on "green" issues " the future of the planet, the protection of forests, water and soil. Today, the welfare states of Europe, having largely secured their own prosperity, are asking whether the world can be made more livable and sustainable by paying attention to areas they themselves prioritize but which others across the globe may neglect. In other words, can the very concept of the global "green movement" extend the lifespan of humanity and life on Earth? In T'rkiye, two quiet but significant steps were taken " neither of which received much public attention. Hopefully, one day they will be more widely recognized and discussed. On the other hand, the zero waste movement led by first lady Emine Erdo'an began as an idea in T'rkiye, was implemented step by step,…...

In August, Russia began limiting some calls on WhatsApp, owned by Meta Platforms, and on Telegram, accusing the foreign-owned platforms of refusing to share information with law enforcement in fraud and terrorism cases. On Friday, the Roskomnadzor watchdog again accused WhatsApp of failing to comply with Russian requirements designed to prevent and combat crime. "If the messaging service continues to fail to meet the demands of Russian legislation, it will be completely blocked," Interfax news agency quoted it as saying.
